Where is my mistake?

def first_and_last_4(iterable): return(iterable[:4] + iterable[-4:])

def reverse_evens(iterable): return iterable[::-2]

Your reverse works on list with odd number of items but not an even number of items.

Can you solve for both even and odd length lists?

Hint: you can take a slice of a slice. Try getting the even indexes in order then use slice notation again to reverse the list.
