Python Object-Oriented Python Instant Objects __init__

real world application of __init__

I understand the code as in I know what to do when it tells me to do it, but I do not understand why you would want to use the Init. I also do not understand why it have me set the self.name = name and so on. Can anyone help me?

first_class.py 
class Student:
    name = "Your Name"

    def __init__(self, name):
        self.name = name 

    def praise(self):
        return "You inspire me, {}".format(self.name)

    def reassurance(self):
        return "Chin up, {}. You'll get it next time!".format(self.name)

    def feedback(self, grade):
        if grade > 50:
            return self.praise()
        return self.reassurance()

In my limited understanding, init basically sets up (initializes) the Student class. The self.name = name allows the use of the name variable throughout the instances in the class making it reusable. I hope I got this basically right, but I'm just learning this too.
