HTML Introduction to HTML and CSS (2016) Make It Beautiful With CSS Test: Styling by Element and Class

How do you add border codes to specific sections/paragraphs?

Current HTML codes:

<!doctype html> <html> <head> <link href="styles.css" rel="stylesheet"> </head> <body>

<p class="main-pg" >My amazing website</p>
}

</body> </html>

Border code I created is {border: 4px, solid, red} or { border: border-style: solid; border-width: 4px; border-color: red; }

I have tried a few other variations but continue getting error message that CSS curly line is missing or to add red border to paragraph element. I also switch between index.html or style tabs. Please help and thank you in advance.

A selector has syntax kinda like this:

element{
//code goes here
}

You're missing the .main-pg part before the curly brackets of your class selector. How do you expect the css to know what element it's styling?! Try something like:

.main-pg{
border: 4px solid red;
}

Thank you! I entered .main-pg part. My mistake was attempting to separate the border codes into it's own element. I am learning coding terminology and your answer was super helpful and well understood.

I'm glad I could help! The terminology gets easier the more you hear/see it! Good luck!
