How do you access the exercises?

I have just started a java basics course and have no trouble with the tutorials and using the workspaces tool however after every couple of steps it says there's an exercise to do. I click on the exercise icon from the tracker at the top of the page but nothing ever happens. No other pages, prompts or instructions ever appear. I just then move on to the next video. What is supposed to happen in these steps?
