Do we have to pay for Akismet?

I would like to get API key, but they ask me to pay first. Is Akismet not for free?

Last time I checked It should take you to a page with a sliding scale for what you are willing to pay and you can slide it to zero so it will be free. It may have changed recently though?

yeah what Oliver said. I only signed up to this a day or so ago. it will allow you to use it for free for one domain, just slide the scale to zero and then go to next step. if you need it for more than one site though then you'll need to pay. I'd recommend doing it for free until you are confident with your site and then maybe making a small contribution or signing up depending how many sites you have.. Hope that helps..
