The quizzes and challenges don't ask you to do anything not covered in the instruction, but they do ask you to apply the knowledge in different ways than was demonstrated in the video. This is one of the aspects of Treehouse I like the best, because using new skills in a different way helps me to retain them much better than just repeating the example would.

Well lets be honest Mr. Parker not everyone has 201,000 points of experience behind them. Not everyone learns the same or at the same speed. In some courses to be completely honest this apply your skills thing gets in the way of learning. I personally see how it helps you to retain info, but however it also sometimes makes me have to repeat the course because I was able to figure it out, BUT have no idea what is going on behind the scenes....

I can honestly say that I found the instruction here just as effective 6 years ago when I started with 0 points. And speed isn't an issue because everything is self-paced.

But I am in complete agreement with you that not everyone responds the same to different teaching styles, and you might benefit from exploring some of the many other instructional sources around. I also recommend supplementing your learning with external references and exercises, many of which can be found online for free. There are a number of other posts in both the forum and the blog where these are discussed with links to specific examples.

And if you haven't done it already, the Bonus Series course on How to Learn may be of some value to you.

Thank you for responding. I my self love treehouse and do external projects to aid my learning. I was really just playing devils advocate for Daniel. I agree with the points you bring up.
