24,090 PointsWhy not use a normal method? I'm struggling with understanding the value of this, why would you use a classmethod?
I pass this with the following:
@classmethod
def from_string(cls, yourstring):
splitstring = yourstring.split("-")
newstring = []
for i in splitstring:
if i == "dash":
newstring.append("-")
else:
newstring.append(".")
return cls(newstring)
I don't get why we would use a classmethod here? Can anyone ELI5?

Treehouse Moderator 68,454 PointsGreat question! Normal instance methods are only available after the instance has been created. At this point, __init__
would already have been run and the pattern set. This classmethod allows using a special pre-processing of the pattern before calling the class to create an instance.
