Why isn't this working? - Morse Code Challenge

Not sure why this isn't the right solution.

    def __init__(self, pattern=None):
        self.pattern = pattern

    def __str__(self):
        newStr = ''
        for val in self.pattern:
            if val === '.':
                newStr+='dot-'
            elif val === '_':
                newStr+='dash-'
        return newStr



class S(Letter):
    def __init__(self):
        pattern = ['.', '.', '.']
        super().__init__(pattern)
        super().__str__(pattern)

You have the general idea. Please fix the following issues:

  • The if comparison is double-equals (==) not triple-equals
  • The newStr pattern has a trailing hyphen that needs trimming
  • The S.__str__ method is not defined. Add this method with a simple return super().__str__()

Hi Andrew,

Chris has given you a few great clues, for your return on the __str__ as you are using a list don't forget the 'join' method.
