Why is the hashCode() of the object being returned as default?

Looking at the docs.oracle.com, it doesn't mention that when creating a new instance of your own class, upon compiling it will return the hashCode() rather than displaying the values passed through the new object instance (i.e toString())?

So, why is the hashCode() of the object being returned as default?
