Why input.value = ""; is followed after const text = input.value; in order to reset the value?

Can input.value = ""; be anywhere in the. code?

1 Answer

Hi Hanwen!

Basically, once the value of the text input field is assigned to the variable, it makes sense to immediately clear it out, which is what

input.value = "";

Does...

Otherwise, the user would have to highlight the text and delete it (or backspace over all the existing text), to add another name...

And technically,

input.value = "";

...could be anywhere in the event listener (after the variable assignment, of course), but to me, it makes the most sense to clear it immediately after the variable assignment. It makes it easier to read and understand the logic (because the two consecutive lines of code are related).

I hope that helps.

Stay safe and happy coding!

Thank you Peter
