Why does 'from datetime import datetime' allow datetime.now() to work?

from datetime import datetime

a = datetime.now()

import datetime

a = datetime.datetime.now()

I will explain from my understanding.

datetime is a class in the module datetime.

for instance,

from datetime import date
print(date.today())

output: 2019-09-13

without importing date:

import datetime
print(date.today())

output: NameError
