2,402 PointsWhy does Android Studio keep indexing?
Hi there,
I installed the android studio moments ago and find it really strange that the software keeps lagging.
When I tried to run the project, several issues occurred on Android Studio;
The software keeps indexing in the background, causing the entire software to lag terribly. It is really frustrating to click from one task to another as well, as each click takes about 3 minutes.
When the Studio has finished indexing, navigation is still a terrifying experience as every click needs about a min of waiting time.
Does this mean my computer is out of date? I am currently using a Lenovo with Intel 1.90 GHz processor. Currently, I have not installed HAXM and HAX kernel module. Will the situation get better once these are installed?
Or should i load it in a different laptop altogether? Any advice would be highly appreciated. Thank you so, so much.
Best, Steve.

2,682 PointsSteve, the same thing happened to me when I started. The laptop I was using only had 2 GB RAM and it just lagged. I ended up getting a second hand desktop with 8 GB from a guy on Craigslist and I now use it for my Android dev. I recommend you get at least 8GB RAM.

2,402 PointsHi,
Thank you so much for the reply, Pete. Wanna make sure I got this correctly; Your previous laptop kept lagging too from indexing back then? Or did it lag, but there wasn't anything wrong with indexing?
Looking forward to your reply.
Best, Steve.

2,682 PointsHello, actually my laptop did not even let me open Android Studio, it took forever to do a build gradle. I don't recall it getting hung up on indexing. I am not sure if your issue has to do with RAM memory. It could be that, or maybe you need to update Android Studio or install all the required tools.

5,736 PointsHi. I also believe it is a performance issue on your computer as I ran into similar issues with having to wait maybe over 5 minutes for everything to load and be done with indexing.
I'm on my laptop running windows 8.1 with 8GB memory and it has an i7-3630QM CPU @ 2.40Ghz.
I am planning on getting an SSD pretty soon since the holidays are approaching and there may be good deals out there.
