Why did Kenneth turn it into a list?

Kenneth turns secret into a list:

while len(bad) < 7 and len(good) != len(list(secret))

Why? the code till works perfectly fine without doing this?

I remember wondering that myself when I took that course. You're quite right, the "len" function can take a string directly. My guess is it's just an unintentional example of how an error can go undetected when it produces the correct result. I'll try tagging Kenneth Love for confirmation, but It might be that he no longer gets notifications.
