Why apply an "inline" display style if the <a> element is already inline?

We are told to add "display: inline;" which in my understanding was selecting the "callout" class within the <a> element.

If the <a> elements are already inline by default, why do we need to do this, or am I missing something?

The property added in the video is "display: inline-block;" This is a bit different from the default setting of plain "inline".

The important difference in this case is that it allows the margin to be effective.
