WordPress How to Make a Website with WordPress Installing WordPress The Famous 5-Minute WordPress Install

When I go to my site (3tapsandyou.com/wp-admin) it brings me to the login screen rather than the configuration page.

Could someone help me figure out what I did wrong?

Hi Meredith,

It sounds like you already have Wordpress installed on your site. Is it possible you have a hosting plan that pre-installs it, or you used your host's one-click install of Wordpress? If so, you'll need to go to your host to find out your username and password.

Note: I do not go to a login page when going to 3tapsandyou.com/wp-admin. Maybe you've changed things since posting this?

Actually I think I figured it out. I just added a new directory and am using that to set up the database, etc. Hopefully this works :)

Okay, so now I accidentally changed the site to be www.3tapsandyou.com/wordpress instead of www.3tapsandyou.com. Is there a way to put it back?

Well, if you put it in a new directory, that's how the url will work... You need to have WP installed in the root of your document if that's where you want the WP site to live.

Thank you I figured that out now! I think I'm set.... :)

Sweet! Glad you figured it out. Good luck with your site!

I tried redoing all the steps in this tutorial and now I have the screen you see (with the parent directory etc). Is there a way to clear everything I've done and try again?

I am using all the programs explained in the tutorial (Firezilla, web hosting for students, etc).

Is there an area in your cpanel for you to manage your wp installations? If so, you can probably go in and uninstall the wordpress from your site, and start over by reinstalling wordpress. You may have to go into the file manager (public_html) for your site and manually delete any wp files that did not get removed correctly.

Hope this is helpful!
