What is " android:id="@android:id/list"?

From what I've read:

@android notation is used when referencing resources defined by the Android system.

What does it mean? If it helps, I have a file called list_item.xml inside the layout folder(which is inside the res), I believe it is referencing to the file? but by that theory why isnt it android:id=@android:id/list_item.xml?

It means that this id is belonged to the android library predefined in the API references https://developer.android.com/reference/android/R.id.html check the above link for more understanding
