what does it mean to set the value to my name ? (java)

I was asked to creat a srting variable called firstName and put my name in it. After that, i was asked to set the value to my name. what does it mean |?

// I have setup a java.io.Console object for you named console
string firstName = "Jonathan";

Hi Jonathan,

When you created the variable firstName of String type, it basically created a variable. There was no value to it. By java rules if you had not set an value it would resort toeing null. By assigning a value to the variable you have actually given the variable firstName something to refer to. Hep that helps. Get back if you need more explanation.
