Throwing Exceptions - code not working

โ€‹public class GoKart { public static final int MAX_BARS = 8; private String mColor; private int mBarsCount;

public void drive() { drive(1); }

public void drive(int laps) { int newAmount = mBarsCount + laps; if (newAmount < 1) { throw new IllegalArgumentException("Not enough battery remains."); } mBarsCount -= laps; }

GoKart.java
public class GoKart {
  public static final int MAX_BARS = 8;
  private String mColor;
  private int mBarsCount;

  public GoKart(String color) {
    mColor = color;
    mBarsCount = 0;
  }

  public String getColor() {
    return mColor;
  }

  public void drive() {
    drive(1);
  }

  public void drive(int laps) {
   int newAmount = mBarsCount + laps;
    if (newAmount < 1) {
     throw new IllegalArgumentException("Not enough battery remains.");
    }
    mBarsCount -= laps;
  }

  public void charge() {
    while (!isFullyCharged()) {
      mBarsCount++;
    }
  }

  public boolean isBatteryEmpty() {
    return mBarsCount == 0;
  }

  public boolean isFullyCharged() {
    return mBarsCount == MAX_BARS;

Can you post the stacktrace (exceptions being thrown in the console)?

You technically don't need this line:

int newAmount = mBarsCount + laps;

Also, you need to make sure your if statement checks that mBarsCount is less than laps variable.
