I don't know what I am doing wrong. I have switched the tr and tbody elements around, tried using tbody to wrap the whole body in one go but all to no avail...please help!

You need only one thead and one tbody tags. Like so:
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8">
<title>HTML Tables</title>
</head>
<body>
<table>
<thead>
<tr>
<th scope="col">Name</th>
<th scope="col">Job</th>
</tr>
</thead>
<tbody>
<tr>
<td>Nick</td>
<td>Designer</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Andrew</td>
<td>Developer</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Dave</td>
<td>Developer</td>
</tr>
</tbody>
</table>
</body>
</html>
