Swift Enum and Structs

Challenge Task 3 of 4

Create a variable named item and assign it an instance of Expense (remember to use the initializer with the description parameter. Enter any description you like). On the next line assign the amount property a value of 100

What am I doing wrong....!!!.....Please someone Help!!!!!!

struct.swift
struct Expense {
    var description: String
    var amount: Double = 0.0

    init (description: String) {
        self.description = description
    }
    func calculateTaxes(percentage: Double ) -> Double {
    return (self.amount*(percentage/100))
    }
    var item = Expense(description: "My description")
    item.amount = 100
    // add the calculateTaxes method here
    // it should accept only one parameter named 'percentage' of type Double

}

I figured it out.....sadness.....I was defining it within the strut definition....

Hi there,

You can't use the Expense struct from inside the Expense struct.

If you move your code declaring item outside of the struct, that all looks fine.

struct Expense {
    var description: String
    var amount: Double = 0.0

    init (description: String) {
        self.description = description
    }
    func calculateTaxes(percentage: Double ) -> Double {
    return (self.amount*(percentage/100))
    }
}

// moved to here
var item = Expense(description: "My description")
item.amount = 100

I hope that helps!

Steve.

Yeah thanks....just figured that out....cheerz

No problem - glad you got it fixed.

Steve.
