1,792 Pointshey there! i think you're a bit mixed up,i recommend to check out the video one more time to make sure you've got everything! ;) you need to change it to become something like:
<style name="CustomTheme"</style>
then you need to define the parent too , so you add this in your styles attribute:
<style name="CustomTheme" parent = "Theme.AppCompat.DayNight.DarkActionBar"></style>
