still confused about this init

Hi I'm still don't know why we only initialise the inventory in the protocol and why we don't initialise the selection and amount deposited in the protocol.? I know we initialise them later but why later in other code ?

protocol VendingMachineType { var selection: [VendingSelection] { get } var inventory: [VendingSelection: ItemType] { get set } var amountDeposited: Double { get set }

init(inventory: [VendingSelection: ItemType])
func vend(selection: VendingSelection, quantity: Double) throws
func deposit(amount: Double)

}
