remove list within list

Try to remove the list within list but keep getting "you should have used .remove() twice now."....not sure what this means.

lists.py 
states = [
    'ACTIVE',
    ['red', 'green', 'blue'],
    'CANCELLED',
    'FINISHED',
    5,
]
states.remove('FINISHED')
states.remove(5)
states.remove(['red', 'green', 'blue'])

when I tried it in a separate terminal it worked

False alarm I was a bit over zealous with the removal...was not supposed to remove 'FINISHED' from the list...Thank you anyway. Cheers :)
