Java Java Objects Harnessing the Power of Objects Handling Exceptions

Protect the call to kart.drive by handling the IllegalArgumentException that is thrown when not enough battery remains.

Couldn't find where I was wrong. Can smone please show me?

Example.java
class Example {

  public static void main(String[] args) {
    GoKart kart = new GoKart("purple");
    if (kart.isBatteryEmpty()) {
      System.out.println("The battery is empty");
    }
    try{
    kart.drive(42);}
    catch(IllegalArgumentException e){
    System.out.println(e.getMessage());
    }
  }
}
GoKart.java
class GoKart {
  public static final int MAX_BARS = 8;
  private int barCount;
  private String color;
  private int lapsDriven;

  public GoKart(String color) {
    this.color = color;
  }

  public String getColor() {
    return color;
  }

  public void charge() {
    barCount = MAX_BARS;
  }

  public boolean isBatteryEmpty() {
    return barCount == 0;
  }

  public boolean isFullyCharged() {
    return MAX_BARS == barCount;
  }

  public void drive() {
    drive(1);
  }

   public void drive(int laps) {
    if(laps <= barCount){
      lapsDriven += laps;
      barCount -= laps;
    } else {
      throw new IllegalArgumentException();
    }
  }

}

Hello

You posted the code couple of times (so it appears?). Hard to read the unformated part.

Did you charge the battery before driving 42 lapses?

from looking at the GoKart class, it appears to me that you need to call:

public void charge() { barCount = MAX_BARS; }

first to get 8 bars worth of charge. and if you still want to drive the car 42 lapses, I suspect you will need to call this method right before running out of bars, several times ... if you don't want the exception thrown.

take a second look at the logic in main and you should be able to see why the exception is getting thrown

Good luck

It worked markmneimneh thanks. Turns out I just need to call kart.charge() method in the public void main part.
