I can't get the project (downloaded from treehouse) to run in my local Android studio.

I don't know how comfortable you are with the Android Studio tools but without knowing too much about your project you may have to look at your "logcat" or messages tabs for details on how to fix errors with the project.
I myself often find I'm able to make sure that Gradle, (which is the Build system that manages projects behind the scenes) does the work for me by clicking links that are sometimes provided. I don't pretend to understand it all myself but maybe it's a simple as performing those actions.
Have you been able to find any error messages, and if so, maybe you could post them here. Remember to use forum markdown if you know how so we can read them and help you out faster :)
