Im not sure what I have wrong its telling me the line with for pies is not correct.

, it should be <a href="cakes.html">Cakes</a>
Whether the link is in single quotes or double quotes does not make a difference.

tag with a >
. Most HTML tags come in pairs. with the content to be displayed in the wrapped inside the two tags
The normal pattern is:
<tag someAttributes>Inner part</tag>
or in your case
<a href='pies.html'>Pies</a>
