on the line 9 there is a error but the compile doesnt show what is it

i had problems when using System.console()

ConferenceRegistrationAssistant.java 
import java.io.Console;
public class ConferenceRegistrationAssistant {
  int line;

  public int getLineFor(String lastName) {
    /* If the last name is between A thru M send them to line 1
       Otherwise send them to line 2 */
     Console con = System.console();

Hi!

In this case you shouldn't call the console method.

Try this:

public class ConferenceRegistrationAssistant {

public int getLineFor(String lastName) {

/* If the last name is between A thru M send them to line 1 Otherwise send them to line 2 */

int line = 0;

char firstChar = lastName.charAt(0);

if(firstChar <= 'M' ) {

  line = 1;

} else {

  line = 2;
}

return line;

}

}
