The "now" in the sample code is not an element type. It's just the name given to a variable being used to store a Date object (also not an element).

Variable names can be anything you like, but it is considered "good practice" to choose a name that relates to what the variable will be used for. Since it holds an object representing the current date and time, "now" seems a good choice.
