The assignment is: "Initialize the showFactButton variable using the findViewById() method like the TextView above it. The ID for the button is showFactButton, and don't forget to cast it to a Button with (Button)!" I am probably just really bad at this whole coding thing, but I don't know what it is asking for when it says to "Initialize the variable." Any help would be appreciated; my code is below.
import android.app.Activity;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.view.View;
import android.widget.Button;
import android.widget.TextView;
public class FunFactsActivity extends Activity {
@Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_fun_facts);
// Declare our View variables and assign them the Views from the layout file
TextView factLabel = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.factTextView);
Button showFactButton;
}
}

10,365 PointsHi Uriah,
just do it like the line above. Declare a Button and donΒ΄t forget to cast it :)
Button showFactButton = (Button) findViewById(R.id. showFactButton);
showFactButton is the Id. The Button inside the parenthesis tells the compiler that we are assigning a Button to "showFactButton".
Makes sense?
