Python Python Basics Functions and Looping Create a Function

Not storing total in result

I think the answer to this question is very simple but everything I am trying is not working.

squaring.py
def square(number):
    total = (number * number)
    return total

result =

Python does not have as much flexibility as other languages on "whitespace"... so, if just put result and square(3) on the same line, and it will work.

result = square(3)

else:
    pass
