Python Regular Expressions in Python Introduction to Regular Expressions Name Groups

"No .groups() attribute, did you do a match?"

My code gives me the error message above. I have no idea where the error is or what it is about.

names.py
import re

string = 'Perotto, Pier Giorgio'

names = re.match(r'''
  ([-\w ]*),\s
  ([-\w ]+)
  ''', string, re.M)

If you use multiple lines in your regex, you'll want to use the re.VERBOSE flag, too, otherwise the regular expression matcher will try to match the newlines and tabs/spaces in your pattern.

Also, it's giving you that attribute because no groups were matched.

Thank you, Kenneth. I think I got it
