Front End Web Development Techdegree Student 13,679 PointsNEXTJS makes Sass Redundant?
Isn't most of this advanced stuff redundant with NEXTJS and component-based styling?
What is that approach to styling called?

231,272 PointsNEXTJS is a server-side technology, where SASS is a preprocessor for CSS and entirely client-side. I'm not sure that it makes sense to consider one as a replacement for the other.
And nothing is redundant when your boss (or client) says "...and I want this to be done using [that technology]".

12,924 PointsYeah the reality is there are loads of different ways of solving problems with technology, and many (most?) organisations are quite attached to particular tech stacks because they happened to have used them for a while.
Also worth pointing out that learning how different technologies work helps you understand common design principles more generally, which is extremely useful in itself.
