I'm Sarah. I'm an academic at heart. A habitual student learning and improving my metacognition. Also, I am interested in improving my understanding of computer science. Data structures and algorithms across multiple programming languages enthralls me.

I am currently working on my first project which is building a portfolio website of all current and future projects. See my linkedin profile for more information.
I'm so thrilled to start sharing more of myself and documenting my journey with all of you.
For the longest time I've had the wrong perceptions on math. I had a math phobia. In the past I dislike math only because I had poor self image in my own abilities to master mathematics and I didn't have the motivation or support from my peers to enable me to be confident in mastering it.
Now my perception has changed. I like that doing math problems creates new neural pathways and expands cognitive capabilities in the brain.
I love the learning process and find joy in the challenge of it.

PHP Development Techdegree Graduate 48,638 PointsI honestly don't remember when I first learned HTML and CSS.
Hi. I'm a PHP developer currently looking for a full-time entry-level position in PHP development. I have received my PHP Development Techdegree last year. My hobbies are watching anime and movies, reading books, listening to music, and playing visual novels. Feel free to add me on LinkedIn and see my past projects on GitHub.

Python Development Techdegree Student 11,506 PointsAre you working in the tech field? Or have worked in the field before? I'm just a bit concerned as to why after a year from doing the PHP Techdegree you haven't been able to find an entry-level position. All I ever hear is how great it is too get into the field and how jobs are everywhere, but it would be good to hear more from someone that has gone trough a course like the Techdegree.

PHP Development Techdegree Graduate 48,638 PointsTechnically yes, but I don't get paid enough to live comfortably. I still rely on my mom and SSI for rent money and other costs. Also, I haven't gotten new tasks in a while, but I will be getting them in next week or so. And, it's hard to find an entry-level position when many of the 'entry-level' positions require like 2, 4, 5, or even 8 or more years of experience (I only have about a year of experience). Actually I responded to a recruiter about a week ago, but after I bombed the last interview, I lost the job.

Python Development Techdegree Student 11,506 PointsYeah I totally get that. It's not easy getting work I hope you do get a good position soon. I am sticking with the Techdegree in Python and will see where it will lead me. I have seen some ridiculous job postings requiring years of experience great then the age of the programing language. I think the best thing to do is submit as many applications as possible regardless. Thanks a lot for your honest respond!

2,311 PointsHi everyone! Newbie alert!
I started my coding journey about 6 months ago. Started learning HTML and CSS with FreeCodeCamp, then found TreeHouse and really enjoyed this platform more. I'm currently refreshing on old HTML/CSS concepts I missed (FCC is a bit outdated) and have started learning JavaScript as well. I've been guiding myself on this self-learning journey, and as a total newbie it's been a challenge kind of knowing how to navigate in this world I knew nothing about a year ago! However, I know learning any new skill is a process and takes a lot of time, and I actually really enjoy learning about code (I'm almost 30 and never thought I would be interested in this field. Life is full of surprises!) I have a list of simple first-time projects I would like to begin (dice game, quiz/survey, user information form) but I don't really feel equipped with the knowledge necessary to complete those projects just yet. I know it will take some time to build up my confidence, and that's ok. Right now I'm just trying to stay curious and positive, asks lots of questions, and code SOMETHING for at least 30 minutes a day (#100daysofcode !!!).
My long-term goal is to work with blockchain technology. I find the concepts of the blockchain so fascinating and love learning more about it! Other interests are: crypto, investing, MMA (my husband is a pro fighter!), and Arab culture. I actually started learning Arabic about 2 years ago and that's what inspired me to start learning a programming language. I can't decide which is harder.... lol
Hope to connect with some of you soon! Looking forward to the live event hosted by Anwar.

9,964 PointsWow! Your story is awesome! I've never met an MMA fighter before, that's a tough job! HTML and CSS is tough but it's fun to learn because you can see your work real-time. It sounds like you have a solid plan and some days are going to be super frustrating but stick with it and be patient with yourself. You'll get there! Good luck!

Treehouse Guest TeacherHi everyone!
I first dabbled in HTML when I was playing Neopets in elementary school. I wouldn't say I learned comprehensively or anything, but I learned how to make userlookups - mainly Lord of the Rings themed ones :) I did some more learning last year and really enjoyed it. Here's my LinkedIn if you'd like to connect. I am currently gearing up for the event listed here with Anwar as well as the upcoming Treehouse Festival!
My hobbies include running, messing with my cat, and a looot of TV since the pandemic hit and I have been staying inside more. Right now I'm going through Parks and Rec, 2019 Bakeoff, and Haikyuu.
Looking forward to connecting!

9,964 PointsMy name is Ayana Bando and I started with HTML and CSS in 2019. I'd left a job at Verizon Wireless after 13 years to do something different and needed to build some skills so I joined a boot camp and used edx.org to gain some skills. I'm still learning, but I love coding! I love the challenges and even enjoy feeling frustrated when something doesn't work because that light bulb going off when I get it feels REALLY good. :)
Here's my LinkedIn if you want to connect!

Full Stack JavaScript Techdegree Student 9,765 PointsHi all,
I first learned HTML and CSS a few years ago using the book, "A Smarter Way to Learn HTML & CSS." While it is a fine book, I learned that I prefer video-based content over books/text.
My name is Toye and I'm doing the Fullstack JavaScript Techdegree.
Besides learning new tech and working on dev projects, I enjoy playing basketball, discovering new music of all genres, and spending quality time with family and friends.
I'm happy to connect with anyone on LinkedIn!

Courses Plus Student 1,701 PointsMy Name is Oladimeji Shekoni, I studied Psychology in my first degree but ever since I graduated in 2012. I only worked as a Counsellor for a year after which I have worked with tech-related companies ever since. I never knew I would learn to code until it dawned on me. Now I'm learning to become a full stack developer. I know this will take a while but I am not discouraged. My main challenge is not having a teacher or study mates to lend a helping hand when I get stuck and I would like to suggest we have a telegram group for our community for such occasions when one needs instant help. My interests basically are in the field of Blockchain and Cryptocurrency and would be glad to connect with anyone who share the same interest. https://www.linkedin.com/in/oladimejishekoni/

2,311 PointsI feel this 100%! My whole life I doubted my abilities in math. It wasn't until after I had my daughter that I realized I had been talking negatively to myself my whole life. I'm so glad you had the same breakthrough as me, because it's quite liberating to excel at something you always told yourself you suck at!

9,964 PointsYou're preaching to the choir here. I've learned to love math over the years and I find myself sitting a few hours a day just working through math problems trying to get better.
