Media Query predetermined sizes ?

I don't think its mentioned in any of the videos, but why exactly are the dimensions specified for the media queries what they are? To my knowledge, it is the pixel width of an iPhone and an iPad?

The dimensions used in the videos are some of the standard phone and tablet sizes. It's just close to the standards. You wouldn't want to go layout every size of every phone and tablet. So those are just the basic sizes.

That's what I was assuming as I have dealt with them before. It wasn't expressed in any of the videos and I am sure some would be confused
