lost - trying to add the # symbol variable to code?

You have a very minor error. You want to remove the quotation marks from "id," "symbol," and "lastName" since these are variables. When you put them in quotes, what you actually did was ==> userName = "idsymbollastName"; 

var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";
var symbol = "#";
var userName = (id + symbol +lastName);
userName.toUpperCase;
