Hi Matt,

It seems like you are storing the ul list in your variable and then adding another li to it - in other words you are not manipulating the DOM this way. You have to first create and li element and store it in variable and then append this variable to ul. Check the code below.

const $newStudent = $("<li>Sam Smith</li>");

// task 2
$('.student-list').append($newStudent);
