JavaScript Code Challenge Question

I'm trying to solve the following challenge: Complete the assignment to the userName variable by adding a # symbol followed by an all uppercase version of the lastName variable. In other words, using string concatenation so that the final value of userName is "23188XTR#SMITH".

No matter what I put in I can't seem to get the answer right. Can someone please give me a hint? I don't understand what I'm doing wrong and I can't find anything in the videos to point me in the right direction.

Thanks.

app.js
var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";

var userName
id.toUpperCase()
id += "#" + "lastName";
index.html
<!DOCTYPE HTML>
<html>
<head>
  <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8">

Your almost there! your code needs to look like this:

var userName = id.toUpperCase() + "#" + lastName.toUpperCase();

the exercise is about using methods and concatenation. I hope this helps.

not a problem. if you have any other questions let us know. happy coding!

You need to use the toUpperCase() method to capitalize the string variable lastName as well.
