Add an if statement that checks to see if firstExample is equal to secondExample. If it is, print out "first is equal to second".

// I have imported a java.io.Console for you, it is named console. 
String firstExample = "hello";
String secondExample = "hello";
String thirdExample = "HELLO";

Hi Jules,

So, you want to compare two strings and output a string if they are equal. All string objects have a method called equals(). You use it like this:

firstExample.equals(secondExample);

That alone does nothing but it does evaluate to true or false depending whether they are equal or not. So, we can use that in a if statement to say if the code firstExample.equals(secondExample) evaluates to true, print out the line needed. Something like:

if(firstExample.equals(secondExample)){
  console.printf("first is equal to second");
}
