Is Android Studio different?

I'm a little confused right now. I downloaded and installed Android Studio but the exact same developer window comes up that I've been working in for the past 2 courses. My window doesn't look like his, especially when he first opens it up. It looks like a new Adobe project, but I've still got the other SDK opening screen. I've opened both the SDK and Android Studio and they open the exact same program. What gives?
