Instead of Public TextView mInserItem

All through this course, I noticed we've been using the keyword public after some of the variables whereas in Java a variable without one is set to public by default. Is it compulsory to put the public keyword in every single variable we are initializing? For instance

public TextView mSummaryLabel;
