Im thinking about starting a tech start-up, but how much money do I need for the tech start-up?

Ill spit out an answer here but you do need to give more info for specific responses.. I am a Tech Startup Founder.. I was a one man show, didi all my own development, design marketing ect.. While i was developing instead of purchasing expensive in-house server i used godaddy.com and rented a single virtual machine that i only ever used for development and testing.. it supported a few users that i had try to blow up the data on my app. there are a lot of things to consider with servers and after looking into all possible options i deployed on a cloud server and have a mirror that i keep in house that i run on a single server i host for development and testing / troubleshooting to try to keep my cloud usage down as your typically billed on transfer rates.. so you need to look at web hosting options through a hosting company as this will be the most cost effective method to get you out of the gate and keep your infrastructure costs to a minimum especially in your pre-revenue months.. Keep in mind your corporate registration fess, bank fees, everything in business costs you money... even your own time. I offset my development costs by offering consulting services to allow me to post revenue to my company and so i can pay my bills..

im not going to post my startup cost here but i can tell you it was not cheap and i am still pre revenue a year later with an anticipated go live date in june... to be successful with a start up you need time and patients its not an overnight venture to riches..

in closing tally up your monthly: web hosting costs, software costs, if you really want to buy your own servers add those costs, registration and legal fees, marketing and then add what you need to survive in a month and there you have your start up costs for your first year.. hope this helps a bit find my contact info in my profile and drop me a line if you want to know more.. there are a lot of great startup services / programs out there with resources to help you sustain and / or minimize your costs for a year or two.

Need more details. Do you need one developer or a hundred? What are server costs? Marketing? Is it going to be big enough to retain legal counsel, and HR person? Do you need facilities and all that goes with it? That's just to start.

I'll echo Charles' answer. Your question is way too vague to provide any reasonable answer. It is like asking how much a house costs, and expecting it to be accurate without knowing some key items like location, size, quality, etc.

To reiterate, your question is too vague. We do not know what kind of service or product you're trying to provide for starters. How many employees do you need? What is your marketing budget? etc. The more details you fill us in with, the more accurate answers we can provide.
