You're simply changing the color of text.

android:textColor="@android:color/white"

We firstly need to tell Android what we want to change. In this case, changing the text color is: android:textColor. By typing in this, Android knows what needs to be changed (i.e. the text color). Next, we need to tell Android what color. @android:color/white is a color that Android already knows.
