im putting in the ID for the input element am i missing anything else ?

Select the <input> element with the ID linkName and store its value in the variable inputValue. (For a refresher on getting the value of a text input, watch this video from the previous section.)

How you pass your ID will vary depending on what function you choose. If you use "querySelector", an ID will need to be prefixed with "#". But for the "getElementById" method, just the ID itself.
