If you're unsure if the user input will be a whole number or decimal can you use parseFloat(); to convert whole numbers?

For example:

var snowFall = prompt('How many inches of snow did you get this winter?');

The user could enter 3 or 3.5, can you then use parseFloat(); to convert the string even if the string isn't a float?

var snowFallNum = parseFloat(snowFall);
