I don't understand what is wrong here. please help

Bummer! TypeError: randint() missing 1 required positional argument: 'b'

item.py 
import random

def random_item(Bob):
    random.randint(Bob)
# random_item("Treehouse")
# The randomly selected number is 4.
# The return value would be "h"

I couple things:

  • "Bob" isn't a descriptive name. It isn't good practice to use names that don't make sense.
  • You aren't returning anything.
  • The thing you are doing in the function requires another argument. You might've got a misunderstanding of the randint function. The function gets a random number between two values: "a" and "b". You only had the first argument "a" when you called the randint function.
  • You need to use the randint function to get the index of the thing in the list, not just the index itself.

If you fix all of these, you should result out with:

import random

def random_item(my_list):
    return my_list[random.randint(0, len(my_list) - 1)]
