I don't understand how .write works

Hello, I don't understand what .write does. When we preview the program on port 3000 it appears like what we inserted after .write is plain HTML, is it? I know that there is documentation, I read it and I don't seem to understand allot of it, the quality of the documentation is not like the MDN. If someone would like to help me understand it would be great.

Thanks, Stavros
