I don't under the separation of the page

I don't understand the separations of the page. I understand headers, paragraph and lists. but i'm having trouble understanding the breakdown of the entire page. the footer information is at the bottom of the page isn't it?

index.html
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
  <head>
    <p>
    <link href="styles.css" rel="stylesheet">
    <title>My Portfolio</title>

  </head>

      <li><a href="#">Work</a></li>
      <li><a href="#">Contact</a></li>
    </ul>

Hi Kim,

The basic layout of a webpage is usually like this below

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
  <head>
  </head>

  <body>
  </body>
</html>

Head is where you store information about the webpage that doesn't necessarily gets displayed on the screen but is important to obtain meta data about your webpage

Body encloses everything that you see on the screen i.e. everything visual.

Therefore all of the tags that help display something on the screen will need to be enclosed within in the body tags

So everything from footer, header, etc. will come within the body tags i.e. in between the opening body tag <body> and the closing body tag </body>

Hope that explains. Happy to help if you need some more clarification

thank you Rahul. I understand most of that. What I don't understand is this question to insert the <p> in this question. to me it looks like it's all be done correctly. my brain isn't functioning right for some reason.
