I didnt understand that readystate thing

Why did he type in 4 at the readystate thing? how does the numbers work? at 6:00

Hi! State 4 mean that the request has been sent and server finish returning the response and browser has finished download the response content. So, it is right to say that AJAX call has completed.

So every number does something? how many numbers does something?
