I did the local install but now I am getting a new computer. How do I transfer my work to my new computer?

I have downloaded MAMP and WordPress on my new machine. What steps do I need to take to transfer the sites I was working on my old machine to my new one?

Since you already have MAMP all set up on your new machine, all you need to do is copy over whatever directory you have your localhost pointing to on your old machine, to your new machine. Then point your localhost on your new machine to that same named directory. Everything should work the same as your old machine set up. It will make it easier to copy over the root directory that holds all your localhost projects. That way you won't need to worry about changing any paths to your wordpress projects locally.

How do I copy the directory? I tried exporting it a few different ways and got error messages when I imported it on the new machine.

Are your files in the mamp -> htdocs directory? Or do you have mamp pointing to another directory? Either way, get a copy of that directory (zip drive etc...) and point your new localhost on new machine to that directory.

that's where I keep getting the error message. I exported it and cant seem to get to import it

I assume you created the new database in phpmyadmin on new machine first, then once in that database you import the .sql file into it

I did. Now I can see the site but can't log into the admin part.
