I've tried both the local and online versions. On the local: When I launch MAMP, and open the start page, get to the window "MAMP HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED....Along with the menu items: Start, My Website, PHP Info, Tools, FAQ, MAMP Website. Not real sure where to go after that as the tutorial seems to be geared to the online version.. Is there a tutorial for the local version?

It looks like you are at the step where you need to have the WordPress files in a folder. It's normally better to have a folder in your mamp install location to put the wordpress files.
